For six years, The WordPlayers’ “home” has been Middlebrook Christian Ministries, located at 1540 Robinson Road. It has been a miraculous ministry center, owned by the good people of Central Baptist Church of Bearden. The WordPlayers has been honored to be partners in this facility with Apostles Anglican Church, Samaritan Ministries, Joni & Friends, and Imani African Church. We have seen God working in numerous and amazing ways throughout these various ministries in the last six years.

Recently, God has made a way for Apostles Anglican to grow and envision the future such that they felt called to purchase the building from Central Bearden. Following God’s leadership, this blessed congregation will be able to completely utilize the facility in fulfilling their mission.

So we leave 1540 Robinson Road, now called Apostles Church, with hearts full of magnificent memories. We staged 19 MainStage productions there! Between the MainStage and Touring Wings, we rehearsed 40 productions of 31 different plays. A lot of other activity took place there, too, and throughout it all, there was fellowship. This isn’t to suggest that everything was always upbeat and happy; indeed, our theatre company, as any company would, encountered various times of success, failure, and stress. However, undergirding everything was a commitment to glorifying God through our work. Because we believe that the exercise of our art is a spiritual pursuit that requires loving collaboration, there has been true, uplifting, joyful fellowship.

As of August 1st, The WordPlayers’ new home will be Erin Presbyterian Church, located at 200 Lockett Road. God is continuing to bless us richly by facilitating this new partnership with the wonderfully welcoming, arts-loving folks at Erin. We are thrilled as we begin this whole new chapter in our story. Who knows what all God has in store? We are taking the first steps in faith, trusting that each succeeding step will reveal more of how God wishes to use The WordPlayers in His story.
