“In the beginning was the Word…”
These words from John 1:1 inspired the name of our theatre company. As Christians, the Word (Jesus Christ) is the beginning of all we are and all we believe. As actors, we play with words. As Christian theatre artists, we explore the Word with and within the words of scripts and sometimes Scripture. The Word is the light of the world through which we play our words. We are The WordPlayers.
Some new beginnings for The WordPlayers:
- Our new 2011-12 Season has just begun with the opening of our Fall Touring Show, THE ALABASTER JAR, a one-act which imagines the future of the woman caught in adultery in the Gospel of John, chapter 8.
- The Aletheia Children’s Wing, with company member Rollin Prince as Education Director, begins working with the Boys and Girls club of Oak Ridge tomorrow, Sept. 7th. He will do theatre workshops twice per week in the after-school hours.
- Our Fall Mainstage Show, LEAVING IOWA, begins rehearsal this month with Wendy Potter at the helm as director.
- David Garner has begun working with us as a new part-time Marketing and Development Associate. Thanks to him, our website has a fantastic new look with the ability for us to institute another new beginning; i.e., this BLOG! Look here for thoughts, impressions, ruminations, etc. on our rehearsal experiences, performance experiences, worship experiences, or any and all experiences with the Word.
Peace in Christ,
Terry Weber, Artistic Director
