I’ve been involved in theatre for a long time now. I have used my talent and experience in a lot of different ways. Through The WordPlayers, in particular, there have been numerous opportunities. There’s one area I’ve only dabbled in a little bit and I’m so excited to explore it more this weekend.

I am attending a conference on Applied Theatre. “Applied Theatre helps people understand problems and rehearse solutions by addressing personal, psychological, or spiritual needs as well as addressing social or political concerns shared by a group of people.” – Dale Savidge, Applied Theatre Center Executive Director

The conference offers hands on training in using theatrical practices to serve marginalized individuals or groups in their communities. Having lived and served in Knoxville for over twenty years, I’ve become aware of so many wonderful social service organizations that help people with the basics of life. Theatre may not be an essential need but there are many benefits to being exposed to theatre. I’m looking forward to using this training to connect with these organizations and help restore lives in a new, creative way.heir problems and rehearse solutions by addressing personal, psychological, or spiritual needs as well as addressing social or political concerns shared by a group of people.
