Aletheia is the newly-established children’s wing of The WordPlayers. It has been a dream in the hearts and minds of several company members for a long time. On August 1, 2011, it became a reality with Rollin Prince as the Education Director. One of the things that makes Aletheia different from other children’s theatre companies, is that we want to bring theatre to the young people, not just have them come to us. During our first year, we are working with the Boys and Girls Club in Oak Ridge, to teach DramaMatters in their after school program. Aletheia means “truth” in Greek. We want Aletheia to help young artists to learn to come to a place of truth in their talents and a place of honesty in their abilities. We believe that God is the ultimate creator and His creative spirit lives and breathes in us, giving us the ability to be creative. He allows us to give that back, using that creativity to express ourselves and to reflect the truth of emotion, whether it be pure joy or devastating sorrow. In learning to express those things, we learn to relate to others and the world around us. Using our creativity in this way allows us to worship God in Spirit and in Truth (John 4:24). Aletheia will start out with theatre classes for young artists. We hope to add an area wide talent event and performances to our schedule soon.
