The WordPlayers is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) theatre company formed in 1995 by Christian theatre artists in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Mission
Our mission is to impact theatre audiences and artists by telling stories from a Christian worldview.
Values
Our vision is a community uplifted by excellent, Christ-centered art, where artists are freed to develop and use their God-given talents in a positive environment founded on Christian principles and values.
Touring Wing
- Serves area churches by providing scripture-based plays for worship services and special events with particular emphasis on the Christmas season
- Shares the Gospel at Morgan County Correctional Facility in the form of an entertaining play
- Presents an annual Black History play highlighting the Christian faith of key leaders in African-American history which tours primarily to schools in the East TN area
MainStage Wing
- Entertains with full-length plays and musicals, three per season, chosen from a faith-based perspective, including a play chosen specifically for family audiences
Children’s Wing
- Assists Emerald Youth Foundation by providing an Acting Camp for at-risk youth during their annual Summer Camp Week
- Offers acting instruction programs for young people throughout the year
Special Annual Event
- Celebrates a new year in Christ by presenting scripture and scripture-based plays in reader’s theatre style each New Year’s Eve
